Is Curd good for you?

Curd intake helps lower blood pressure and CVD risk in hypertensives in addition to its known benefits on gut health. It restores the normal gut flora to maintain a healthy gut! Besides , it’s an easily digestible protein.

In a recent study reported in International Dairy journal, hypertensives who took curd regularly were found to have lower pressure by 7 points.

Consumption of 2 or more servings per week of curd has also been reported to be beneficial in lowering CVD risk ( heart attack and stroke risk)in hypertensives in an earlier study published in American Journal of hypertension in 2018.

Other than nutrients, the beneficial effects may be attributed to the healthy bacteria such as lactobacillus in curd. Even smaller quantities of curd are beneficial on lowering blood pressure.

The caveat though is that health benefits of curd are undermined with the addition of sugars or salt as these have detrimental effects. Hence natural unflavored home made- curd is what I would recommend to be incorporated in addition to a healthy diet and lifestyle
