He is currently Chief Interventional Cardiologist , HOD Cardiology & Chairman Cardiovascular Sciences (Interventional cardiology consultants Inc.) and a Senior Consultant interventional Cardiologist at a Heart Institute in New Delhi . Dr Chugh has over thirty nine years’ of experience in Clinical Cardiology, twenty seven years of which have been in Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Chugh has performed over 25,000 cardiac invasive procedures which include Percutaneous Coronary Interventions, both transfemoral and transradial (over 7000 transradial angioplasty), Over 2500 distal transradial coronary procedures; Acute Myocardial Infarction Interventions, Primary PTCAs for STEMI (Heart Attacks), Peripheral Angioplasties, Containment/Embolic protection devices (IVC Filters), Valvuloplasty, ASD closures and groin closures.

He is also well versed in Clinical and Emergency Cardiology, CCU Care and non-invasive Cardiology including echocardiography and stress testing.

A DM in Cardiology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi , Dr Sanjay Chugh was a university topper throughout his undergraduate (MBBS) and post graduate (MD) studies. He worked in England as a Registrar in Cardiology and trained in transradial interventions at Clinique Pasteur, Toulouse Cedex, France by the world renowned interventional cardiology legends, Prof Jean Marco, Prof Jean Fajadet way back in 1997. He was a visiting Fellow Visiting Fellow at Hospital, Charles Nicolle, University of Rouen, in France, where he trained under the legendary cardiologist, Prof Alain Cribier in 1998.

After working as a Registrar in Cardiology in London UK , and training in Radial at Toulouse France Dr Chugh worked as a lecturer grade Clinician in Interventional Cardiology at St George`s Hospital , Tooting, London ,UK. Subsequently he worked in Interventional Cardiology at the renowned Heart Attack Center in University of Calgary , Alberta; and at the world renowned St Paul`s Hospital Vancouver , University of BC, as well as at the dedicated Radial center at Royal Jubilee Hospital , Victoria BC.

On his return to India in 2002, he set-up the Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi`s transradial program and made transradial angioplasty a routine there; other than performing the first transradial angiogram and angioplasty and Primary angioplasty for ST elevation myocardial infarction(heart attack) at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi and their satellite centers at Agra, Hisar , Panipat , Jodhpur and many other towns and cities in India, including at the Government Medical College in Bikaner, Rajasthan and at Lucknow`s renowned King George`s Medical University. He Headed the Cardiology, at Escorts Kalyani Heart Center, Gurgaon as well and was a Principal Consultant in Interventional Cardiology at Fortis Escorts Hospital, New Delhi and Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon.

He is a pioneer of transradial interventions in India and a world-leader in the field of interventional cardiology. As Senior Interventional Consultant Cardiologist and Head of many Cardiology centers and departments of reputed hospitals in India, he promoted and trained cardiologists in transradial interventions and set-up centers of excellence for transradial interventions across the country , including at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi; Escorts Kalyani Heart Center, Gurgaon; the Mission Hospital Durgapur ; the Jaipur National University Hospital and Medical College, Institute for Medical Sciences and Research at Jaipur, Rajasthan , India; Metro Heart Institute, Naraina Road, New Delhi to name a few.

Dr Sanjay Chugh taught The SHOs at St George`s hospital medical school ,UK, & at the MRCP course, UK. He is also a member and fellow of several International and National societies including the American College of Cardiology; College of Physicians, Canada; Cardiological Society of India, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI),USA; among others.

He has many innovations, and over 100 publications and 8 book chapters to his credit, besides being a refereereviewer for renowned international and national cardiology journals including Indian Heart Journal, JACC interventions , Circulation intervention, International Journal of cardiology, JACC heart failure, EHJ Heart failure, Catheterization and Cardiovascular interventions, Journal of interventional cardiology and Journal of invasive cardiology. He is also a referee /reviewer for abstracts and cases for American College of Cardiology, and Transcatheter Therapeutics, USA.

He has many FIRSTS to his credit: Performing the first transradial rotablation of India; Performimg the first 4F slender transradial angioplasty in the world outside of Japan; Launching India`s first Slender Trans Radial Angioplasty Club on July 4th 2013; Setting up the first walk -in –walk- out Day care Radial Angioplasty Unit of the country established at Medical College Bikaner where for the first time in the world, patients were discharged home 2.5 hours after Angiography(presented at SCAI 2005); Established the First Radial lounge of Gurgaon (2009) and of Eastern India (2015). ; Performed World`s first distal transradial PTCA LIVE CASE for ACS (2 cases) in April 2017 at Radial Live 2017, at Jaipur National University and Medical College, Institute for Medical Sciences and Research Center, Jaipur, India ; Performed the country`s first overseas TRANSRADIAL LIVE CASE transmission at Transradial Masterclass, UK,2011; Published the World`s first sheath sizing protocol , World`s first grading of radial spasm and for the first time in the world, showed feasibility and utility of pre-procedure ultrasound imaging to reduce risk of failure and complications in transradial interventions( Catheterization and Cardiovascular interventions July 2013); and for the first time in the world put forward a hypothesis on `invasive assessment of myocardial viability` published in BJC and quoted in the prestigious journal Circulation.

He has been invited for talks at national and international scientific meetings including at annual conference of Cardiological society of India, National Intervention Council meetings, Radial Live, India Live, Transcatheter Therapeutics, USA, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, USA, Transradial Masterclass UK, and for performing live cases.
