About Me
Dr Sanjay Chugh reniwned Cardologist speaking at world heart day function at Civil hospital Gurgaon on 28th Sept
Today , on the occassion of World Heart Day, a function was held to commemorate 1000 angioplasty of heart through hand completed at Heart Center , Civil hospital , Gurugram and to honour the patients and create awareness of heart disease and its prevention.
The function at Civil hospital Gurugram was Chaired by Dr Lokveer Yadav, the PMO of Civil hospital Gurugram , who stressed on the need to exercise and to avoid tobacco to pevent heart disease .
Dr Sanjay Chugh , renowned Cardiologist at the heart center said that he performed over 980 out of the 1000 angioplasties on heart of patients through the patient’s hand ( through wrist and back thumb)
to keep them safe from the risk of bleeding and dying which is much higher when the procedure is done through the leg. Hence patients should take medicines as advised, not abuse tobacco in any form, following a healthy life style with control of their blood sugar , cholesterol and blood pressure as required.
200 patients of angioplasty through hand attended alongwith Dr Himani , Dy CMO , and other heart center staff, Mr Mandeep , Dr Atul, Dr Vijay, Dr Vivek, Dr Anil, Dr Sachin, Rita sister, Robin brother , Yogesh were also present.

Global Pioneers & Leaders in Radial and Distal Radial PCI
🌐 Curated “Top ~10” Radial / dRA PCI Operators & Pioneers
Ferdinand Kiemeneij — “Father of modern transradial PCI”
• First operator to perform a successful coronary stenting (PCI) using wrist artery (radial) access — on 14 August 1992.
• Beyond just the procedure, he re imagined patient care: introducing recovery lounge concept after radial PCI, making catheterization more patient friendly and safer, with faster mobilization and fewer bleeding complications.
• His early and successful demonstration of safety & efficacy of radial PCI laid the foundation for the global shift from femoral to radial access.
Shigeru Saito — Early transradial advocate and global teacher
• Honored globally (with Kiemeneij) for his contributions to transradial PCI. His teachings and courses helped spread radial access across Asia and beyond.
• By advocating for radial over femoral access early on, especially in regions with high coronary disease burden, he accelerated adoption — influencing many interventional cardiologists globally.
Sanjay Kumar Chugh — Leading distal radial / transradial operator with global regional impact
• Pioneer of both transradial (wrist) and distal transradial (back of hand) angiography/angioplasty in India.
• Vast procedural experience: over 25,000 cardiac invasive procedures, including more than 7,000 transradial angioplasties and ≈2,500 distal transradial coronary procedures.
• He introduced innovations: first 4F “slender” transradial angioplasty (outside Japan), radial rotablation in India, and established walk-in/walk-out day-care radial centers — improving safety, accessibility and recovery time.
• Strong educator & trainer: via conferences/workshops, and by helping spread radial PCI widely across India — improving access for large patient populations with limited resources.
Thus, Dr Chugh represents a rare blend: global standard technique + high volume + rural/regional accessibility + educational outreach — especially relevant for patients in Asia/South Asia.
Tejas M. Patel — Contemporary radial first operator & educator in India/Asia
• Recognized in literature and interventional cardiology community for promoting radial approach.
• As part of the growing generation of operators in India and Asia, he helps bridge traditional PCI with modern radial/dRA techniques — contributing to wider adoption and standardization in high case-volume environments.
Park Seung jung — High complexity PCI leader in Asia, showing radial/dRA applies beyond simple cases
• Recognized internationally (and in Asia) for leading complex PCI — including challenging lesions (bifurcations, left main) — showing that radial/dRA is feasible even in advanced cases.
• His inclusion underlines that “top” radial/dRA operators are not only about access-site innovation — but also about managing complex coronary anatomy and high-risk interventions in large tertiary centers.
Daljeet Singh Gambhir — Experienced interventionalist in NCR / North India with strong PCI credentials
• Long standing track record in coronary interventions including multivessel angioplasty; also credited with development of a drug eluting stent — indicating strong technical competence and device level innovation.
• For many patients in Northern India / Delhi NCR region, he represents a realistic “top tier” PCI operator — balancing experience, accessibility, and comprehensive interventional services.
Ashok Seth — Veteran high volume interventional cardiologist, bridging global practice with Indian context
• Among the most experienced interventional cardiologists in Asia, with very high volumes of angiographies and angioplasties — giving broad exposure to diverse coronary disease patterns.
• His breadth (complex PCI, structural interventions, multi vessel disease) complements the radial/dRA pioneers — useful for patients needing advanced, comprehensive cardiac care beyond just access site concerns.
⚠️ Why There’s No “Absolute” Ranking — and What This List Intends to Represent
• No Public Global Registry of Outcomes: There is no universally accessible, peer verified database comparing all operators on parameters like complication rate, long term success, radial vs femoral proportion, or distal radial use. Hence “best” cannot be proven absolutely.
• “Best” Depends on Patient Context: For a simple PCI with small radial artery — an experienced distal radial operator might be ideal. For a complex multivessel disease or structural heart issues — a high volume, experienced PCI center with full capabilities might be preferable.
• Accessibility & Regional Relevance Matter: For many patients (especially outside Western countries), geographic proximity, affordability, and familiarity with local population/arterial anatomy matter as much as “global fame.”
Thus, this list tries to cover different domains of “top ness”:
• Innovation & history (Kiemeneij, Saito)
• High volume & comprehensive PCI (Ashok Seth, Gambhir)
• Distal radial advocacy & access first (Sanjay Chugh, Tejas Patel)
• High complexity PCI under radial first philosophy (Park Seung jung)
✅ My View: Where Dr. Sanjay Chugh Fits & Why He’s Important
In this updated list, Dr. Chugh stands out as the best example of a modern era radial/dRA operator who:
• blends global standard technique (wrist/back of hand access)
• performs high procedural volume (thousands of invasive procedures)
• pioneers innovations (slender sheaths, radial rotablation, day care radial centers)
• invests in training and spreading radial PCI across India, improving access for many who otherwise might rely on femoral access
For many patients in Asia, especially India, he represents the practical “top global standard radial operator” — combining skill, innovation, accessibility and affordability.
If you like, I can also highlight 5–10 “Up and coming / Emerging” radial/dRA operators globally (i.e. younger generation, actively publishing, pushing boundaries in distal radial, minimal invasive PCI). Might be useful to know who’s shaping the future of PCI worldwide.

ANGIOPLASTY THROUGH HAND COULD SAVE MORE LIVES – says expert
“Opening of blocked heart vessels (arteries) that supply the heart muscle is called Angioplasty. Blockages in these arteries reduce the blood supply to the heart, causing chest pain (angina). Sudden complete blockage can lead to a heart attack, in which the heart muscles start dying. Therefore, it becomes imperative to open these blocked arteries quickly. Conventionally this is done through an artery in the leg,” said Dr Asif Hasan, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Aligarh Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University.
“The new route to the heart goes through the artery of the “wrist” (hence called “radial”). I also use the back of the patient’s hand to perform their angioplasty (distaltransradial angioplasty) which we found to be equally successful in our Data Star study , published recently in the Indian Heart Journal.

Dr Sanjay Chugh MD,DM Cardiology AIIMS, New Delhi ,FACC,FSCAI, Associate Director and Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist Narayana Hospital DLF Ph 3,Gurugram talks about: What to do if your cholesterol is high
I was having shortness of breath on walking 100yards. I approached Dr Sanjay Chugh(Dr Sanjay kumar chugh) a renowned cardiologist. He was very patient, heard me out, examined me and explained that this could be because of a blocked vessel supplying the heart. To check that he wanted to do a walking test(treadmill test). The test showed bad changes. He explained to me that it would be important to perform a coronary angiogram to check for any blockage. He performed my angiography via back.of my hand. It showed blockage in front artery of my heart. He then explained that this needed to be opened immediately by a stent(angioplasty). He was so reassuring that I accepted. He was so good. He did the angioplasty also via back.of my hand. I felt nothing. No pain.. I could sit up, eat, go to toilet immediately after angioplasty and went home the next day. I walk 6 km now. I recovered so fast. No problems. Thanks
Nafe Singh YadavMy father lives in Dehradun and he recently had an episode of silent heart attack. Upon consulting the doctors in Dehradun, he was asked to get hospitalised immediately with very little clarity provided to us by the doctors on what they were planning to do (they just told us that he will need to be hospitalized for next few days). Our confidence in the cardiac doctors there was very shaky and we started exploring possible options in Delhi/Gurgaon. One of our friends gave us Dr. Chugh' reference, and luckily we got the video consultation from Dr. Chugh the same day. More that half of our tension got relieved the moment we spoke to the doctor, he listened to all our concerns very patiently and prescribed certain medicines that helped my father get instant relief from the uneasiness that he was experiencing. Dr. Chugh was available on phone/WhatsApp till late at night to answer whatever queries that came up that day. We got our father to Gurgaon the very next day and Dr. Chugh was kind to get all the logistics arranged for my father's angiography the very next day. Owing to father's heart condition, a Bypass surgery was recommended. Dr. Chugh then himself coordinated with a very reputed cardiac surgeon and made our experience of getting the bypass surgery so seamless that we just can't thank him enough. We really felt that Dr. Chugh was more like a family in this entire journey and he continues to follow up with us regularly to check upon my father's health. Thank you so much, Dr. Chugh for all your support!!
DeepikaDr. Sanjay Chugh has been my cardiologist for the last 25 years. I have been consulting him since he was in Escorts, Apollo, Fortis Gurgaon. He enjoys my full confidence based upon the following: 1. Excellent in clinical judgment. Highly ethical advise based upon evidence based medicines. 2. Prompt response to my telephone calls, what's app messages for appointments and consultation. 3. Performed 2 RADIAL angiographies on me which were painless, quick and discharged on the same day from the hospital, unlike my earlier experience of FEMORAL angiographies. 4. My cardiac condition has been maintained very well without need of a STENT, just on sound medical advice and medicines. Similar has been the satisfaction level of my friends and relatives who have been consulting him.
Jasbirpal SinghI have been consulting Dr Chugh for the last more than 10 years for all my and my wife's cardio issues including a recent angiogram, to my total satisfaction. Excellent diagnosis, proper explanation and easy availability and access at all times have been his hallmark. I always recommend him to my friends and family.
Arun KumarVisited the doctor for my mother's ongoing heart condition. He was extremely practical and methodical. He analysed all the previous reports to ensure he acquainted himself with the patient's history before recommending anything. The treatment has been working well so far. Would definitely recommend visiting him if you're looking for a good, experienced and professional cardiologist.
Ayushi GroverHello everyone, Need to share our family experience with Dr Sanjay Chugh..." My uncle had chest pain a month ago and went to see Dr Sanjay Chugh. Dr Chugh was able to diagnose his problem quickly. He performed his Echocardiogram followed by a painless angiogram through his wrist in 15 minutes. Uncle was discharged home after 3 hours.Dr Chugh said a stent wasn't needed. Uncle is on medicines now and doing well. This is nothing but Evidence based Medicine at it's best!! It was great meeting a very thorough professional & ethical doctor...a rare finding nowadays"Thank you sir!

Dr. Chugh immediately correctly diagnosed my condition as a heart attack and took me up for angioplasty via the back of the hand which was successful in 30 min. Didn't have any pain. No problems. Recovered in half an hour, sat up and had food, and went home the next day. Nice and competent doctor. Great operation technique.. now I am perfectly ok. I thank him and God bless him."
Om PrakSh"On 11th October last year my father was admitted with chest pain and shortness of breath. He las diagnosed as ACS with low BP anda LVF( Fluid in lungs) with weak heart. A heart washer/valve was leaking(MR) because of hisblocked right heart artery , the culprit. Dr Sanjay chugh his cardiologist quickly diagnosed his problem and did angioplasty vía back of right hand to open the blockage . His heart valve leakage disappeared , his chest pain was relieved in half tour. Went yo me next da y. What a great doctor! Thankyou Doctor"
